Backpacker’s parents ‘devastated’ as body found

WA police believe the body of a man found washed up on a beach near Bunbury is that of German backpacker Jan-Christian Bielenberg who had been missing for more than two weeks.

South West police Detective Senior Sergeant Kylie Whiteley said this afternoon that although the body had not yet been formally identified, it was likely that of 20-year-old Mr Bielenberg.

“At this point we are still attempting to formally identify the male,” Senior Sergeant Whiteley said.

Missing Backpacker – Jan-Christian Bielenberg

Missing German Backpacker who disappeared  from a Bunbury hostel has not been seen for more than five days now.                                       

Police have been searching for him and now they are fearing for his safety as he was last seen wearing only his boxer shorts, socks and a brown hooded top.

He was last seen leaving the hostel at 3.43am last thursday after being locked out of his room at the Dolphin Retreat Backpackers in Wellington Street.

He is 190cm, muscular and has short, light brown hair and brown eyes.
